With their new song ‘Breathing is Defiance’, Shadow Ensemble explore what happens when the artists and communities that helped shape your identity no longer feel like home.
The song echoes flashbacks of living through October 7th in Israel, while international communities looked away and turned their backs on Israeli musicians who once felt part of them. At its heart is a difficult question: How do you find your voice again when you’ve lost faith in so many of the voices you once trusted?
Losing your heroes can also mean finding people you can stand beside. For the band, there’s hope in seeking out a new global tribe of people who choose dialogue, open-mindedness and curiosity over self-righteousness and groupthink.
Shadow Ensemble bring together alternative rock, electronic textures and trip-hop influences, with musician and producer Oren Gilad (drums, vocals) working alongside Bar Harel (vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Sivan Amran (vocals, bass). Their new single, ‘Breathing is Defiance’, was released on October 16th across all streaming platforms, accompanied by a lyric video on YouTube.
